The Observatory Archives invites Hakim Bey to reflect on this subject as a contribution to OVNI dis_Reality. Hakim Bey is the pseudonym of Peter Lamborn Wilson (EE. UU. October 1945 - May 2022), an American writer, essay writer and poet who describes himself as an “ontological anarchist” and a Sufi. His 1990 work TAZ: The Temporary Autonomous Zone made him famous. As well as writing a series of essays on the traditions of Chinese secret societies (Tong), Bey introduced the concept of the Temporary Autonomous Zone based on his research into pirate utopias. Bey has also written about figures like Charles Fourier and Friedrich Nietzsche, and on the links between Sufism and ancient Celtic culture. Along with these authors and theories, Situationism has also been an important influence in Bey's texts, which could be considered as an updating of its ideas for the present.

In Benyounes forest, “la foret” as they called their habitants, was the last stage of a long trip for thousands of people coming from Sub-Saharan Africa. Close to the fence that divides Ceuta (Spain) from Morocco, they establish in a variable time, before flank the last obstacle in they way to Europe, looking for a better life. Sometimes running away from wars, politics persecutions, hunger or a precarious economy situation. Lots of times of all of this. In years, the migrants pass across this forest and after some weeks or months they manage to arrive to Ceuta. In finals of 2004, European union start agreements of subcontract Morocco in the control of the Spanish – Moroccan border. The habitants of the forest, started to feel the effects of this agreements: the increase of illegal devolutions, the abuses from the civil police, they install police controls near the forest, they forbid the access to current water, military attacks to the camps in with they made mass arrests and rapes as a war weapon. The migrants organize themselves in spaces like this and construct spaces; support nets in Moroccan territory, confronting and resisting this way the European politics. In the industrial suburbs of Beirut, three men talk about their sexual relationships: beginning, middle and end, hiding nothing. The video explores the ideal "male" that attracts them and they share with most boys his age. The cult of the body, songs and sexual language are verbal and non-verbal elements articulate their fantasies. The stories they tell us begin with the seduction, and end when they have fucked. The old man is a door between the things that are known and unknown ... symbolizes the decline and the end of what we have taken for real, and now it is perceived as ephemeral and inconsistent, as the poverty of his clothes dragged by time. The proximity of death as an unavoidable truth gives his own vision; a new and deeper insight not limited to visual perception, and beyond logic and laws of the world. Maybe that's why in the dark of night can contemplate the beauty of a flower.
