Part three of a cycle of digital video works I'm beginning to call -after Bataille- "Theory of religion, theory of ecstasy." The other two parts are Mirror and The Zapruder Footage. This tape is inspired by the 11th century Sufi mystical text The Conference of the Birds. It is a text which explores transparency and opacity, multiplicity and unity, narrative and insight, the mundane and the ecstatic. I include a postscript from the text which I included at the end of the tape, and perhaps best responds to the attempt to phrase it: "Seek the trunk of the tree and do not worry whether the branches do or do not exist."

The films of Cuban director Santiago Alvarez exist as a kind of fractured mirror on the last 40 years of American history - a subversive alternate history. A film career that began only with the triumph of the Cuban Revolution in 1959 and continued until his death in 1998. This is a compilation of his films: Now, Cerro Pelado, Hanoi Martes 13, Hasta la Victoria Siempre, L.B.J., 79 Primaveras, El Sueno del Pongo and El Tigre Saltó y Mató... Morirá... Morirá.

In Home Stories, probably Matthias Müller's best-known work, the author takes parallel sequences (with a single motif) from different classic Hollywood films to parody the obsessive atmosphere of the thriller.

My first stop, geologist Jan Zalasiewicz, talking about the Earth in one-hundred millions years time.“What would be left of human action, human traces, human constructions, human buildings and the wider ripple effects of humans after that length of time… assuming that humans disappear in the geologically near future.”
