Crying Sun tells the story of people from the Chechen mountainous village of Zumsoy and their struggle to preserve their cultural identity and traditions in the context of military raids and enforced disappearances by the federal army, attacks by guerilla fighters, and subsequent displacement. By helping to articulate the voices of Zumsoy villagers in the public and policy spheres, the video calls on local and federal authorities to end impunity for human rights violations and to restore policies for the return of mountain villagers to their ancestral homes.

During the protests against the WTO in Seattle, we had a collective vision. We saw people from many different cultures and ideologies, united with a strength and an energy that has not been seen for decades in this country.

23 unedited shots derived from declassified U.S. Government footage of the first underwater atomic bomb test at Bikini Atoll, July 25, 1946, made available through the National Archives, Washington, D.C. The longest shot is 7.5 minutes. The cameras began filming before the explosion and continued to the end of the film roll. Some of the film was shot at very high speed, and some of it appears to be fogged by radiation. All of the footage is marked by the duress of its original production.
