23 unedited shots derived from declassified U.S. Government footage of the first underwater atomic bomb test at Bikini Atoll, July 25, 1946, made available through the National Archives, Washington, D.C. The longest shot is 7.5 minutes. The cameras began filming before the explosion and continued to the end of the film roll. Some of the film was shot at very high speed, and some of it appears to be fogged by radiation. All of the footage is marked by the duress of its original production.

CRUDE IMPACT is a powerful and timely story that deftly explores the interconnection between human domination of the planet and the discovery and use of oil. This documentary film exposes our deep-rooted dependency on the availability of fossil fuel energy and examines the future implications of peak oil — the point in time when the amount of petroleum worldwide begins a steady, inexorable decline. Journeying from the West African delta region to the heart of the Amazon rainforest, from Washington to Shanghai, from early man to the unknown future, CRUDE IMPACT chronicles the collision of our insatiable appetite for oil with the rights and livelihoods of indigenous cultures, other species and the planet itself. It is a thought-provoking story filled with discovery, sorrow, outrage, humor and ultimately, hope.

During the protests against the WTO in Seattle, we had a collective vision. We saw people from many different cultures and ideologies, united with a strength and an energy that has not been seen for decades in this country.

Crying Sun tells the story of people from the Chechen mountainous village of Zumsoy and their struggle to preserve their cultural identity and traditions in the context of military raids and enforced disappearances by the federal army, attacks by guerilla fighters, and subsequent displacement. By helping to articulate the voices of Zumsoy villagers in the public and policy spheres, the video calls on local and federal authorities to end impunity for human rights violations and to restore policies for the return of mountain villagers to their ancestral homes.

"Stranger is the one that is always asked: ”Where are you from, brother?” or is asked ”Is it hot in your country?” He doesn't care about details concerning the people in the country he is or about their domestic politics'. But he's the first one to suffer its consequences. He may not be happy when they are happy but he's always afraid when they are afraid". Mourid Barghouti

A powerful, first-hand testament to the reality of the military experience told entirely in the words of American veterans who have been to war and are now opposing it. We hear how they came to join the military, about their experiences in training and in war, and what led to the turning point when they decided they could no longer, in good conscience, participate in the war or keep silent. This documentary serves as a counter-recruitment and organizing tool for activists, schools and organizations. It provides a sober view of the occupation in Iraq and an important counterpoint to the “stay-the-course” rhetoric of the Bush administration.
