Scope and content
Equatorial Guinea is the third largest oil producer of Africa south of the Sahara, and the only African country with Spanish as its official language. There are no publishing houses or libraries in the country. The government has no interest in art and culture. So the population, especially intellectuals and artists, remain isolated and live under difficult conditions. In this documentary, the “Literary Voices of Equatorial Guinea“ quote from their literary works that sum up 40 years of independence from Spain. Some do it from Guinea, others from exile. They reflect the brutal tyranny of the first dictator Francisco Macías Nguema, analyse Spain's role in the history of Equatorial Guinea and describe the current situation under Teodoro Obiang Nguema, who has presided over a pseudo-democracy for 30 years.
