Production notes: QUE VIVA LA LUCHA is the result of Producer Gustavo Vazquez’s lifelong association with the wrestling spectacle. As a child in Tijuana, he met several of the most well-known luchadores of that time. Three years ago, while reminiscing with his old friend Edmundo Soto, also a lucha fan, they decided to undertake this documentary so audiences outside Tijuana could understand the fascination for this ritual. Vazquez and Soto assembled a crew and the actual production spanned two years. They decided to focus on young, emerging Tijuana wrestlers to document their dual lives – the modest jobs during the week and the adulation they inspire on the weekends. The new stars, Extreme Tiger, Angel Negro Jr. and Pancho Cachondo moved up the ladder of recognition until they became the featured performers at the arena. QUE VIVA LA LUCHA becomes a portrait of the fans, promoters, wrestlers and families who make up this sport.
