The documentary follows Yuri Vella, a Forest Nenets writer and social activist who lives in West Siberia. He left his village ten years ago to lead the life of a reindeer herder in the taiga. The unique little world he created there was meant to protect him from the alcoholism and unemployment that sadly poses a serious threat to the indigenous peoples of Siberia. To give his grandchildren a proper education in their natural environment and teach them reindeer herding skills, he established an elementary school in his winter camp. Unfortunately, Yuri Vella's world is but an oasis of traditional lifestyle in one of the largest oil-producing regions of Russia.

A sea of green stretches as far as the eye can see on both sides of the dirt road leading to the Paraguayan communities of Lima, Capiibary and Guayaibí. The huge fields are planted with genetically modified soy, Paraguay's leading export product. As it takes over more and more land, the crop is leaving sick people, displaced communities and trampled rights in its wake, according to the documentary Soberanía violada, which means “violation of sovereignty”.

The earth, its fruits, its particular places and the traditional cultural practices of its people are sacred, material and immaterial assets shared by all. Food sovereignty is at the heart of the Cauca peasant women's and indigenous communities' peaceful struggle to achieve overall sovereignty. Barter is still one of their strategies.

Every year, more than 25,000 workers are enslaved by landowners in rural Brazil, mostly in the Amazon region. This video tells the story of men who set out in search of work and are taken to isolated ranches, only to find that they have been lured into debt bondage. Forced to do backbreaking work and to live in overcrowded shacks with no running water, they are treated like animals. “A bullet from my shotgun is what you have a right to here”, one worker was told. With no way out, they toil in the hope of buying back their freedom.
