This controversial, startling and hypnotic mix of music and visuals is a semi-autobiographical psycho-drama following one addict's journey from sickness to health, anguish to well being. Annotations for a Work in Progress... In November 1994 I traveled from New York to Barcelona hoping to retain support film in what remained of the original Chinatown. One could say that at the time of my arrival in the neighborhood, this started to disappear. Currently it is being demolished and transformed following a massive urban redevelopment plan. Decline and future life, memory and oblivion: entropy as history.

Crying Sun tells the story of people from the Chechen mountainous village of Zumsoy and their struggle to preserve their cultural identity and traditions in the context of military raids and enforced disappearances by the federal army, attacks by guerilla fighters, and subsequent displacement. By helping to articulate the voices of Zumsoy villagers in the public and policy spheres, the video calls on local and federal authorities to end impunity for human rights violations and to restore policies for the return of mountain villagers to their ancestral homes.

Los Sures is the name of a Puerto Rican neighborhood in Brooklyn, New York. Recorded in 1991 and published in 2008, this video is not so much a portrait of the neighborhood or a memory of it, but a journey of initiation through different interior landscapes that are reflected in the urban wilderness in the evocation of death and loneliness, but also in contemplation and celebration of life.

On August 6th and 9th, 1945, two atomic bombs vaporized 210,000 people in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Those who survived are called “hibakusha” -people exposed to the bomb- and there are an estimated 200,000 living today. Today, with the threat of nuclear weapons of mass destruction frighteningly real -the world's arsenal capable of repeating the destruction at Hiroshima 400,000 times over-, filmmaker Steven Okazaki revisits the bombings and shares the stories of the only people to have survived a nuclear attack.
