In Saint-Louis, Senegal, it is customary to bring offerings to the water spirits when a child gets born. They traditionally make offering to the Spirit of the River. The building of infrastructures for water mastery has endangered the delta environment in the beginning of the 1980s. And populations are suffering.

FRANCES Saint-Louis, ville implantée au milieu du delta du fleuve Sénégal, il est de coutume à la naissance d’un enfant de faire des offrandes aux génies aquatiques. Ceci témoigne de la force de la symbolique de l’eau dans l’imaginaire des habitants qui lui consacrent des rituels et des cérémonies rythmant leur vie quotidienne. Depuis le début des années 1980, l’aménagement d’infrastructures pour une plus grande maîtrise de l’eau met en péril le cadre écologique du delta.
