L'any 1988 tancava les portes el teatre Kursaal de Manresa. Lluny de la seva època d'esplandor, el Kursaal s'havia anat deixant degradar i es trobava en un estat ruinós. El panorama teatral a manresa era trist, tan a nivell d'infraestructures com de programació. Set anys més tard un grup de manresans crea l'entitat cultural '“El Galliner” amb la intenció de dinamitzar la programació teatral a Manresa i amb un objectiu clar: reinaugurar el Kursaal l'any 2006.
