In 1962, René Vautier, together with some Algerian friends, organized an audiovisual formation center to encourage a “dialogue in images” between the two factions. A film was edited from that experience, but the French police partially destroyed it. The images that were saved represent an unprecedented historical document: They tell of the Algerian War and the history of the ALN (National Liberation Army), as well as showing life after the war and, particularly, the reconstruction of the cities and the countryside after the war of Independence. It is the first film from independent Algeria Dirección y fotografía | Réalisation et image | Directors and cinematographers René Vautier Ahmed Rachedi Nacer Guenifi Héléna Sanchez Sidi Boumédienne Mohamed Guennez Allal Yahiaoui Mohamed Bouamari André Dumaître Taïbi Mustapha Bellil

He was starting to unbutton her shirt on the night of 7-8 February, 2000, when the room became suddenly dark: What happened' Most likely, Israel has once more attacked the power stations?. The nocturnal is not reserved for the night in Lebanon: even during daylight, doesn't a shade of the night appear every time the electricity is off due to electricity-rationing? Through this additional period of darkness during which they do not sleep, the Lebanese have turned into quasi insomniacs. The spells of periodic cut off of electricity have allowed me, who is otherwise not an insomniac, to better appreciate my insomniac friend the filmmaker and writer Ghassan Salhab.

A provocative montage of eyewitness images from the streets of Athens, sourced from youtube, is performatively revoiced by the artist using just the sounds ph- and p-, creating a close-up personal response to a highly mediated event, as well as a focus on certain key sounds in that situation beyond/nearer than the general crowd and sirens. The Greek character ?(phi) represents the so-called 'golden ratio' and is a neverending ideal. By constant voicing of this letter, the soundtrack of the video highlights the concept of constant movement in the context of direct action and social change, as well as the shadow side of that - the state doctrine of ceaseless linear progress and 'civilization'. There is also reference to Atrocity Exhibition, considering how we experience and interpret 'riots' in the highly mediated present, to explore and complicate 'moral' responses to street violence.

I started to learn piano playing when I was 6. As I can recall, I attended weekly piano lessons until the age of 15. Since then, piano and piano playing fell out of my life almost altogether. I don't think I am bad in playing piano, though I can't consider myself good at it. For the nine years of piano practice, I learned how to play, and that's all. This is probably why I quit playing so easily. After all these years of staying away from the piano, it's time I unlearned my unhealthy learning attitude by reinforcing myself to learn how to learn.
