What Would It Mean To Win? was filmed on the blockades at the G8 summit in Heiligendamm, Germany in June 2007. Begg and Ressler focus on the current state of the counter-globalisation movement. The film, which combines documentary footage, interviews, and animation sequences, is structured around three questions pertinent to the movement: “who are we?” “what is our power?” “what would it mean to win?".

Khue, a Buddhist monk, the clown Phong and the young prostitute Thuy reflect on their personal experiences during three different decades of Vietnamese history. French colonialism, the Vietnam war and the current effects of globalization create an image of a Hanoi teetering between the influences of modern, Western ideas and traditional Asian values. The protagonists' fragmented memories draw a picture of Vietnamese day to day life but also deal with the social changes of the past 70 years.

They sell the fetishes of commercial globalization - Hulk statues, 7-Up, national and international currencies - but not on the official market, from which they've been left out. It's a persistent, daily effort, Sisyphean and heroic at the same time, for despite the artfulness of the work, the jingles, the heckling,the sweat, nothing much happens (compared to the profits made by the crusaders of globalization), the world just streams by, and at the end of the day you pack up your things and leave and in your absence the world keeps on going without you.
