The fictions-performances inside and outside of Starbucks coffee shops and Disney stores often end with the Reverend being arrested. He calls it stepping into somebody's imagined box. The police call it illegal trespassing. The Reverend claims that social change always begins with civil disobedience and includes as his heroes the civil rights, peace and labor movements.
UntitledBen, a young Cameroonian, is sent to Germany by his family to bring back money and wealth to his home village. Torn between his wish to rise up to his family's expectations and the few opportunities he has, he cleaves through Berlin's shady boxing business, dreaming of rejoining his family as a world champion one day. He relentlessly tries neither to lose his family's respect nor his own dignity, while being spurned in the real and dirty world of boxing. The pressure is high on him when after years he returns for a visit to his family. Eventually, the big showdown is not the world championship fight but the family tribunal in Cameroon. A film that shows a migrant not as a victim of political circumstances but as an individual with his own story, challenging deep-seated prejudices about foreigners on both sides.
The film chronicles the dire reality of foreign domestic workers in Lebanon. By combining a multitude of perspectives, it offers intimate insights into the private lives of employers, agents and maids. Exposing modern forms of slavery, it also reflects on the role of women and domestic work at large in capitalist societies.
UntitledThe people of East Greenland inhabit a small string of coastal land at the edge of the biggest island of the world. Long winters have always shaped daily life here, a life that has gone within a few generations from earth house to modernity, complete with helicopters, satellite TV and alcohol. This documentary shows us East Greenland today, the village in summer and winter, the family between seal hunting and computer games. It lets us experience in clear and poetical scenes normality in an extraordinary world, quietly observing events, faces, gestures that combine to form a portrait that is at the same time strange and strangely familiar.
SHOOTING LOCATIONS is researching the borderlines between war, playing war, war games and the disappearance of the separation between reality and fiction.
