The author of this film hitchhiked from Tarragona to Pakistan with the object of shooting a film in the so-called “Islamic” countries, and doing so in a fashion that is different from the usual media stereotypes that pigeon-hole women. For thirteen months, she travelled and lived in Bosnia, Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan. Unveiled Views portrays the lives of five women she met during her sojourn. These women have chosen art as a way to express themselves: public performances, cinema, music, poetry and dance are the tools they use -each in her own particular way- to unveil a personal vision of life.

Departing from the title, the video establishes a divergent parallelism in between the wife of the Senegalese migrants’ and the Odysseus’ Penelope. The protagonist do not just take Penelope’s roll, but subvert it. Parallelism due the similarity in the long periods waiting for their husbands’ return home. Divergence because, here these women take the enunciation power, to tell us how they deal with their reality and they how negotiate with the social pressure surrounding them, that like in the Odysseus, would love relegating them into a second term.

Five women's stories are interlaced with scenes of work and the resplendent festivities, music, poetry and paintings of the region. They show how economic independence, community, friendship, cultural pride and respect for "women's work" not only give a woman self-esteem and a sense of purpose in life, but contribute to the well-being of whole society. 6th Independent Vídeo & Interactive Phenomena Show

              Time Like Zeros

The title Time Like Zeros is taken from a comment by one of eight female prisoners who narrate the film, as she contemplates the life sentence stretching ahead of her. It is echoed visually in the camera movement that encircles the prison, and in the circles of razor wire that whiz by as the scene moves from the exterior fence to the darkest cells of the prison. A sense of community and compassion can be sensed in the women's voices, yet contrasts with the footage shot by guards as they chain down a woman in the segregation unit.

This work by Lebanese filmmaker Danielle Arbid is based on the secret, ardent and obsessive sexual experiences that are freely recounted in minute detail by her friends. Archival super-8 footage of prim young girls alternates with darkened shots of men and women discussing their formative experiences and their fantasies. Their words and the visual representations create a highly poetic erotic tension.
