Janata Bennuna is from Morocco; Hanan Al Shaykh is from Lebanon; and Nawal Al Saadawi is from Egypt. All three are authors of the Arab word, committed intellectuals who shed light on the complex social reality of the Arab world through their books. In their hands, literature becomes a weapon through which to draw attention to and denounce situations that they oppose. The three women, from a generation heavily influenced by Pan-Arabism, initially studied against the wishes of their families, but ended up gaining their support. In A Woman's Word, these three very different writers who nonetheless share a common ground talk about their lives and their work. By learning about them, we also gain an insight into the Arab world, which is much more complex than the Manichean and mostly malicious information on the subject that predominates in our own society today. They too are Arabs, women, who refuse the victim mentality, and demand their rights through their work and their commitment.

The attempts of some women to tell their dreams and find meaning in them, looking for what they might reflect in terms of their life or social situation, reveals a different face and a different image of Egyptian women. This image may have nothing to do with the stereotypes about Arabic women, who are usually presented to us as submissive, without the power or the desire to change their situation. The women in this video show the extent to which this image is distorted and far from the reality. This doesn't mean that the reality is completely different or better, but it is certainly much more complex, full of contradictions that affect all women and place them between what is socially "moral" or "acceptable" and the challenges of a life that demands much more responsibility and strength in order to face the social and financial pressures on a daily basis. Each woman is looking for a way out or a change, even if for the moment the confrontation is at a personal level

Donia Amar is one of Al Azma’s earlier works, it essentially observes the relationship between two pop singers, Mostafa Amar and Donia - each from a different social class - and their fans. Al Azma follows the two pop stars and their fans around recording fragments of concerts, interviews, and rehearsals at their studios. The film differs from mainstream documentary by using a wide range of images and techniques to reveal and interpret the wider context of the social and political reality of popular culture in Cairo.

January 25, 2011. The fall of Ben Ali in Tunis on January 14, 2011, built beacons of hope in the Arab world. All the attention is in Egypt, where groups in solidarity with the young Alexandrian Khaled Said, killed by the police, are calling for Egyptians to take to the streets against the regime. The chosen date is January 25, National Police Day, seen as one of the pillars of a regime sustained for decades in the country and ruled by Mohammed Hosny Mubarak as a Western ally. But people, claiming freedom and social justice, breaks the barrier of fear, goes outside and begins a rebellion that will shake the whole world. Erhal - Leave - chronicles from within the 18-days-struggle that brought down one of the more stable dictators of the Middle East.

With his leading protagonist and friend (Bassam Samra), Nasrallah takes us on an exquisite tour of a subject normally overdramatized by the West. Taking the debate beyond the simplistic approach and with familiarity rarely seen, young men and women talk about the ?hijab? and its social implications. Most of the youths regard the head scarf not primarily as a religious obligation, but as a social construction that symbolizes a girl's respectability or sexual innocence. When talking amongst themselves, however, the young men acknowledge the sexual double standard.
