These videos deal with some of the most visible issues in contemporary societies. Racial mix, violence, marginalisation, culture clashes...as manifestations of the idea of the Border (territorial, social political, psychological). Issues that could be summed up in the profound feeling of loneliness that saturates these works. Juan Bautista Peiro.

On the border, the line as principle of property and belonging reaches an extreme dimension where it physically defines the sphere of its relations. Those who transgress it reconstruct these imaginary lines on a daily basis, redefining the traditional geography and occupying the non-spaces where others live in a temporary form of existence. These others, the non-citizens, are phantasmtic, exchangeable parts of a flexible market. Made invisible, they are permanently controlled persons. Under the pretext of a greater civilian security, they are kept clear from the public spaces reserved for the citizens with rights and pushed into non-public spaces, which are run by state and military surveillance, multinational operations servicing a European market and non-governmental organisations.

UntitledGaza, War in Media presents a series of interviews that challenge the official Spanish media account of Israel's Operation Cast Lead, in which 1,400 Palestinians died and 5,000 people were wounded, most of them civilians. According to this version, Israel was “defending itself” from the launch of Qassam rockets by Hamas, by massive bombardments to destroy the “infrastructure” of this “terrorist” group. In reality, the bombardments and the ground offensive by the Israeli army targetted the civilian population of the Gaza Strip, as shown by the Goldstone report commissioned by the UN Human Rights Council.

Since Kyrgyzstan gained its Independence in 1991, there has been a revival of the ancient practice of Ala-Kachuu, which translates roughly as “grab and run”. More than half Kyrgyz women are married after being kidnapped by the men who become their husbands. Some escaped after violent ordeals, but most are persuaded to stay by tradition and fear of scandal. Although the practice is said to have its root in nomadic customs, the tradition remains at odds with modern Kyrgyzstan. Ala-Kachuu was outlawed during Soviet era and remains illegal under the kyrgyz criminal code, but the law has rarely been enforced to protect women from this violent practice.
