This documentary by filmmaker Shelley Saywell takes the viewer beyond the headlines and into the minds and hearts of Hamas. Sayell and her two-person crew spent many months securing unprecedented access not only to the current leaders of Hamas, but also one-on-one interviews with insightful, knowledgeable Israelis and Palestinians not often heard from. A crucially important resource was consultant Olivia Ward, a veteran Toronto Star journalist whose intimate knowledge of, and credibility within, the region proved invaluable.

he sat on the glittering precipice is a multichannel video installation, made up of silent video loops created from source material of 24 pictures taken of Sinha's terminally ill father's bedroom window and sound recorded in his room over a 24 hour period. During this time, Sinha remained awake, trying to be mindfully present yet aware and at peace with the process of his father's passing. The resulting video and audio were processed into a 24 hour loop, from which the ...precipice installations are made. Each installation is a number of separate stretches of time in the 24 hour video, edited and chosen when commissioned---a meditation on Sinha's father's memory and his influence on the artist's own and other's lives. Initially conceived as a way to connect with his father's changing consciousness (through medication, exhaustion, and preparation for his death), the process of creating the 24 hour video yielded this form---the personal gesture of a discrete and unique presentation of this stretch of time in Sinha's life with his father. Technical notes The video loops are projected on a window or hanging glass (preferred), therefore, a semi-transparent scrim is required to mask the projection surface. Clear surfaces without frames or structural elements is optimal. Projecting on one “part” of a split window is permissible. There is no sound element, but a quiet space is absolutely essential. Other projection/screening options are possible, including wall projection and multi channel projections, or split screen options. However, this must be in consultation with the artist. Projection can be realized via DVD or computer file, depending on technical support available. Installations may be mounted in any reasonable space assuming it is quiet. he sat on the glittering precipice was supported by the Ontario Arts Council's Grants to New Media Artists Program (2007). In Holobomo, images and sounds are borrowed from blank-and-white films in order to compose a new narrative. Video artist Owen Eric Wood takes this material from the work of Toronto-based filmmaker Mike Hoolboom, who regularly employs the act of appropriation in the construction his films. As such, Holobomo is a second-generation appropriation, raising issues of the degradation of meaning as images are taken out of context and recycled. The artist projects moving images on himself and a sculpture of himself to bridge the gap between two-dimensional image and three-dimensional space. In so doing he asks viewers to consider their own relationship with images and how images influence memory, perception and the way we experience life.

Every day, tons of chemicals are released into the environment, without any certainty about their possible long-term toxic effects on living organisms. Moreover, the majority of the 100,000 molecules developed since World War II that are used in everyday products have never been tested… Some of them have already found their way into our bodies and into fetuses. Up to 247 toxic substances have been found in newborns. We are bequeathing our toxic legacy to our children along with our DNA! The conclusions are disturbing and challenge the way we live.

"It may indeed be questioned whether we have any memories at all from our childhood: memories relating to our childhood may be all that we possess. Our childhood memories show us our earliest years not as they were, but as they appeared at the later periods when the memories were aroused. In these periods of arousal, the childhood memories did not, as people are accustomed to say, emerge; they were formed at that time. And a number of motives, with no concern for historical accuracy, had a part in forming them, as well as in the selection of the memories themselves." Freud . This ten-part video strains childhood through a history of reproduction, culling pictures from the Lumiéres to the present day in order to find the future in our past. Here are children of pictures, as pictures, the ones who will walk on our graves, granted a legacy of framing and image making that have helped shape their lives, and their ability to grieve those no longer around to share them.a video in ten parts: In the Future (3 min), Jack (15 min), Last Thoughts (7 min), Portrait (4 min), Secret (2 min), In My Car (5 min), The Game (5.5 min), Scaling (5 min), Imitation of Life (21 min), Rain (3.5 min).

Homosexuals fulfilled in the land of macho? Located near the border with Guatemala, the Mexican town of Juchitán is home to the Zapotec Indians, who have shown remarkable tolerance towards homosexuals. According to legend, God gave Vicente Ferrer, the patron saint of Juchitán, a bagful of queers. Everywhere he travelled -Colombia, Central America, Guatemala - he left behind a homosexual. In Juchitán, however, his bag came undone, and they all fell out at once...
